Rafting Soca River
Rafting in Slovenia - Soča River
This alpine river is number one in Slovenia! The picturesque, azure and transparent water makes it unique. 137 kilometers long, it also flows through Italy. Most of it is located in Slovenia, as much as 95 kilometers, and 42 km - in Italy. It flows from the Julian Alps and flows into the Gulf of Venice. A rafting trip down the Soca River is an unforgettable adventure for everyone - both young and old, thanks to the fact that it has sections of varying degrees of advancement and length. It is a completely safe form of activity on the water, under the supervision of qualified instructors with appropriate permits. Rafting down the Soča River offers us a combination of the beauty of Slovenian nature with a hint of adrenaline, thanks to three routes: Family, Standard and Long.
Soča rafting routes:
Family route
Section: Čezsoča – Srpenica
Difficulty scale: ready
Length and duration: 8 km - approx. 2.5 hours
This is the route that is most likely to be taken by a family with limited children, due to the fact that it is less demanding and quieter in general to certain specifications. This is a popular rafting solution on the Soča River, an ideal alternative solution as well as a more diversified rafting solution. A route offering beautiful landscapes, fast rapids and quieter moments to admire nature.
Standard Route
Section: Boka – Trnowo
Difficulty scale: medium
Length and duration: 8 – 10 km – approx. 3 hours
The section Boka – Trnovo, to one of the most exciting and executive rafting on the Soča River. The Boka – Trnovo route is a must-see (class III-IV) and is recommended for people with rafting experience. The rafting starts near the impressive Boka Waterfall and is then launched through technical and final streams that provide adrenaline rushes. This is a great option for those who are stronger.
Long route
Section: Zmuklica - Trnovo
Difficulty scale: medium
Length and duration: 20 km - approx. 4 hours
This equally beautiful section is the longest and therefore not always accessible. The trip down this route takes place only in spring, after heavy rainfall, when the water level is higher and is equally demanding. It has a difficulty level of III-IV, which makes it suitable for those with more experience. It is characterized by a fast current, numerous rapids and technical obstacles. The water here is exceptionally dynamic and the landscapes are stunning. This is a great choice for those participants who want to feel the real thrill of rafting.
Rafting or packrafting in Slovenia?
If you have already participated in rafting on the Soca River and have experience in rafting and want to try something new, it is also worth taking advantage of the packraft rafting option. This is a lightweight, portable inflatable kayak that is perfect for difficult terrain, especially in places where traditional kayaks would not cope.
Its versatility makes the packraft ideal for exploring rivers such as the Soca, which offer a mix of quiet sections and more exciting ones with rapids and waterfalls.
For people who have no previous experience in packrafting, many companies offer equipment rental and organized trips with an instructor, as well as packrafting training in the Soča Valley. Thanks to this, anyone who wants to feel like a real explorer can do it in a safe way.
Whether you are an experienced paddler or just taking your first steps into the world of packrafting, this option is sure to leave lasting memories and give you the opportunity to explore this unique river in a way that other forms of transport cannot offer.
When to go rafting in Slovenia?
The best season for rafting in Slovenia is from May to September. Thanks to the spring melting of snow, great conditions are created on the river, the water level is higher and the current is stronger, which guarantees greater emotions. In summer, conditions are more stable and ideal for people looking for a milder experience, this is an option especially for families with children.
How to prepare for rafting?
The organizers provide all necessary equipment, such as a neoprene wetsuit, helmet and life jacket.
However, it is worth taking with you:- swimsuit
- towel,
- shoes that may get wet, e.g. sandals or lace-up sneakers
- change of clothes
- waterproof phone case
How much does rafting cost?
The price of rafting on the Soca River depends on the difficulty, route and organizer, but usually ranges from 40-60 euros per person.
The price usually includes: equipment, instructor, transport to the start and a short safety instruction.
What to do after rafting?
When staying in Bovec, we have many options for spending time actively. If we have already completed Rafting on the Soca River and overcome the Susec Canyon, we can also include a bicycle and hiking trip. If there are people who love adrenaline, we also recommend zip-lining :)
And for lovers of European history - Slovenia has preserved the ruins of the historic Forts Kluze and Hermann and numerous chapels hidden in the thickets of Triglav Park. However, if you like to explore the world and admire it from your car, it is worth going to the sea, which is less than 2 hours from Bovec!
Rafting in Slovenia and children
If you are wondering whether you can take your children rafting... definitely! It is a real paradise for little adventurers. Slovenia itself is an ideal base for walking, cycling, climbing a waterfall - kids love being outdoors! Don't worry if your child is too small or too big - this is a perfect place for everyone! :-)
The town of Bovec
Bovec is located near the Triglav National Park, it is a typical mountain town, but it is also an active sports center in the Soča Valley, where you will have access to all the attractions that Slovenia has to offer.
In Bovec itself, it is also easy to find accommodation in charming guesthouses that provide very nice service and kindness, as there is no shortage of this among the residents. And after an active day, you can hide in a pub and admire the wonderful views through the window, tasting Slovenian specialties.
Canyoning in Slovenia - Susac Canyon
This is another sport you can safely practice in Slovenia. Sušac Canyon is the perfect location for people looking for unique experiences. Flowing through narrow canyon corridors, overcoming waterfalls, jumping into natural pools and climbing over rocks. It is very popular in the summer season due to the ease with which we can overcome it. But also thanks to beautiful views, clear water and many places to jump.
In the canyon we can find numerous toboggans, i.e. rock slides, especially at the end of the route, where you can slide down a 13-meter long slide! The Susac Canyon is short, it shouldn't take us more than 2 hours to cover it. Finding the canyon itself is not difficult, due to its popularity, everyone knows its location - it is located approximately 15 km from the town of Bovec.
Triglav National Park
Triglav Park is one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. It's beautiful! Its name comes from the Triglav peak (2,864 m above sea level) and is located almost entirely in the Julian Alps. In the Park there are gorges, rivers, streams, forests, valleys and very rich fauna and flora. It is characterized by "snow" peaks, rocky trails, beautiful waterfalls and crystal clear lakes.
Triglav National Park is an entry into the magical world of wonderful landscapes that take your breath away, creating a unique land based on natural landscape.
Silence, peace, the sound of streams, the singing of birds is nothing else than an ideal environment, created for relaxation, away from the hustle and bustle of cities.
