Its route is 247 km, but the most charming section of this river is about 17 km, flowing through the Pieniny National Park. Sailing past theone of highest peak of the Pieniny – Three Crowns rising to a height of 982 m a.s.l. and Sokolica Mountain with a height of 747 m a.s.l. The calcareous substrate and the specific climate mean that in this part of the Pieniny there is a rich and varied vegetation and thus also fauna. Half of the animal species found in Poland can be found here, around 13,000 are estimated. Most of them are insects and about 150 species of birds, 10 species of amphibians or 61 species of mammals : boars, roe deer or deer. The rafting route starts in the picturesque village of Sromowce Niżne and ends in the Szczawnica town. The entire rafting trip on the Dunajec River lasts about 2 hours and covers 14 kilometers. Access to Sromowiec Niżnych is organized from Szczawnica at 10:00 or 14:00. The journey time by bus is about 20-30 minutes.

Safety and rafting on the Dunajec River

Inflatable boats used for rafting are certified equipment, specially created to overcome the rapid currents of mountain rivers with rocky and sharp banks and bottoms. Special protection which are the air chambers in the pontoon (there are 7 of them) means that even puncturing 1 or 2 of them will not affect safety and you can easily swim to the shore. In the same way, the straps that hold the legs during the trip guarantee safety, and thus protection against falling out of the pontoon. Each participant, equipped with a helmet and a life vest, does not have to undergo any special preparations or have exceptional physical fitness. The nature of the Dunajec River means that there is no possibility of tipping or falling out of the pontoon. A professional rafting instructor “on board” efficiently manages the course and ensures the safety of participants. Therefore, there are no contraindications for rafting for children, non-swimmers or any fear of water.
